waqonthewildside: On the day of Martin Luther King Jr.’

On the day of Martin Luther King Jr.’s celebration this week, I found myself in the city where Dr King most famously wrote in his Letter From Birmingham Jail, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ With Dr King’s quotes and legacy fresh on my mind, this public art acted as a sign of equality, peace and resistance. • • • •

waqonthewildside: Nature shows off its gorgeous light not only

Nature shows off its gorgeous light not only at the highest peak, or at sunset by the ocean, but also by something as mundane as looking down the car park of a food hall in Birmingham, Alabama. • • • • _forum_2496

I will save so many hours in life if, instead of waiting for someone to enter my frame, I learn to Photoshop them in, but that won’t be the same. Amiright? • • • •

No matter how many times I visit Boston, if I happen to be in the neighborhood of Boston Public Library, I must stop in to pay my respects. • • • • • • • • dotcom _boston

waqonthewildside: Love a hotel that celebrates all things local.

Love a hotel that celebrates all things local. Along the lines of in Minneapolis and in Burlington, Boston’s new boutique hotel, Revolution Hotel, highlights local history, people and businesses. Wrap-around mural designed by Bostonian adorns the lobby; Innovation Tower, sculpture depicting local inventions hugs the spiral stairwell; bookcase filled with Boston classics greets you in the lounge. • • • Because the revolution began in this city in 1775, the hotel is offering a nightly rate of $75 for stays until the end of March. Make sure to use promo code WAQAR for this special rate. (Boston airfares on and are well under $150 rt for a weekend getaway for the next few weeks from MSP, Chicago and NYC airports.) • • • • boston boston dotcom _boston 10boston

Go beyond Acorn Street and explore new insta spots when in Boston. Scenes like this colorful block in Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, just steps away from the Bunker Hill monument, hardly ever makes it to prime time instagrams. The second photo is of Acorn St - the most instagrammed street in Boston. • • • • dotcom 10boston

waqonthewildside: As an immigrant straddling between cultures and identities,

As an immigrant straddling between cultures and identities, the idea of home can be complicated. A simple ‘where are you from’ from strangers often has us doing a quick mental judo on how best to interpret and respond. Are they simply curious about my ethnicity? Do I answer with where I was born? Where I spent my childhood? Where I’ve lived the most? Or where I pay the rent? All different in this case, and all I dearly consider home. Fortunate to feel loved and call many places home. • Karachi, a crowded, dusty and loud city in Pakistan, was home earlier in my childhood but I never got to explore it well, or traveled outside the coastal city. I follow many Instagrammers from Pakistan who continually amaze me with beautiful sights from a country that rarely gets any travel hits. I would love to travel to Pakistan as part of

waqonthewildside: Very fortunate to have travelled the places I

Very fortunate to have travelled the places I have last year. Budapest topped the list of my 2018 destinations - see story under Highlights - in part because of its many beautiful libraries. It’s true, just as people make reservations at finest restaurants when planning a trip, I seek out local libraries - among other things - often emailing ahead to inquire about taking photos and making sure the library isn’t closed to the public for any special event around my visit. Do you do anything similar around your travels? • • • • _forum_2479
