One of these days I’ll find WiFi strong enough to show you all the incredible places I’ve been to in the past two weeks: Antigua, Lake Atitlan, the highlands of Guatemala in Nebaj, Chajul, and Cotzal. For now, here’s a view from 2,500 meters up on the Pakaya volcano. Next up: Quetzaltenango!

Antigua in early morning. I loved this colorful and hip Guatemalan town where time flows much slower than it does in the US. Can’t wait to share with you the rest of the country sights!

We’re leaving Antigua today and heading to Lake Atitlán, then Nebaj, then Xela, and more — I’m here working with a social enterprise empowering indigenous communities to lead, thrive, and have better lives (check out and for more). No time to edit and post photos live so here’s a shot from my favorite colorful town in Italy, Manarola.

Guys I made it to Guatemala and already falling in love with Antigua — a colorful, hip, youthful town bristling with energy, ideas, cool coffee shops, and cheeky Trump posters. Check out my Stories for a first look! I can’t wait to share more as I hunt for stable WiFi 😊

As an immigrant, my mom didn’t get many breaks. She’s come to the US 20 years ago for the future that became my reality: traveling the world, working on projects I love, believing that anything is possible. All this time, she’s worked. She hasn’t been back to Kazakhstan, the mountainous oasis where I was born and where she spent her youth, ever since she left. In that time, our family in Kazakhstan grew, got old, had babies and birthday celebrations. I would like to see her — for once — take a break and return to Kazakhstan, to the place she once called home. Submitted for challenge

insearchofperfect: Modern day Wadi Rum Bedouins almost all have

Modern day Wadi Rum Bedouins almost all have homes in villages now, but they invariably return to the desert (many sleep there in tents just like their families have been doing for ages). They also raise camels, proudly, and not only for showing curious travelers around, but also for racing. Racing is a big business here — once a year, in August, the Emirates-backed race comes to the desert. The winner can take home 20,000 JD (that’s over $28,000). The best racers, I’m told, are the camels from Oman with their long, lanky stature. 🐪 Want to meet these desert nomads yourself? This April, you can. Join me on a trip to Jordan and Lebanon and see for yourself why I’ve fallen in love with this place. We’ll spend time with the families that live and work in the desert, and do so much more. All the details via the link in my bio!

Packing for my first trip of 2019 that starts tomorrow 😬 Where are you headed first this year? Image from my solo trip to Vietnam where I rode a train from the South to the North and had a front row seat to the beautiful countryside

insearchofperfect: The image I’m most proud of in

The image I’m most proud of in 2018 is this one of little Nembilik. We’ve gotten lost in the prairie lands of Mongolia and spent the night with a family of nomadic herders, who’ve taken us in with open arms and hearts, fed us well and shared with us, weary travelers, their home. Travel in our age can often feel like a manufactured experience. It’s encounters like this one that keep my faith in the beauty and kindness of our world. Here’s to more treasures like this in 2019! Happy New Year! ✨ #2019

insearchofperfect: Do you agree that in the busy swirl

Do you agree that in the busy swirl of everyday life we rarely stop to think of the most important questions? Who am I. Why am I here. What matters to me. What is my purpose here. We lose sight of ourselves and wake up years later, still in that busy swirl, with our dreams unfulfilled. Find that moment, dear friends. Keep focused on your dream. Keep asking those questions. Your life will thank you for it. ❤

insearchofperfect: Re-discovered one of my favorite poems last

Re-discovered one of my favorite poems last night: This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. . Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. . The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. — Mevlana Rumi
