‘Build your legacy‘. I’m really enjoying the slight improvements every week as a minor reward for a lot of work day in day out. But it just shows that if you’re working in the right direction, small steps every single day work wonders. For example, now seeing signs of bird feathers on my colonel approved chicken drumsticks makes the hours of daily exercise and strict dietary adherence 100% worth it. Much like the satisfaction of finishing the day knowing you did absolutely everything you set out to do. So aim high, write a list of the steps you need to take to get there and filter it down to the daily tasks. Seasonal spotlight on food - Chestnuts The chestnut season is short, so make the most of it while you can, especially if you like them fresh. The smell of roasted chestnuts reminds me of Christmas, but they don’t just smell good they’re packed with goodness too. They contain vitamin C as well as minerals including potassium, manganese, iron, calcium, magnesium plus antioxidants. The high fibre content of chestnuts supports digestive health and helps lower blood cholesterol. They are also lower in fat than most other tree nuts. Look for the plumper chestnuts if you are buying them fresh. To roast or boil them you’ll need to make a small cross in the base. Add them to cooked Brussels sprouts to make a delicious side dish for your festive meals. If you avoid gluten, chestnut flour can be delicious in baked goods.

Added 27 lbs to my frog crunches because we HAD to play airplane, obviously. Did some planks (also with added weight and baby laughs) since my scar has been a little sore lately. I even stopped during my workout because I swore Declan was going to roll from back to belly and ya know I HAD to try and capture it. He almost had it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ my 30 minutes of exercise is over and now I get to focus on playing with my boys all day 💙

My last post discussed whether gluten makes you fat. But what about when it comes to your health? - If you suffer from celiac disease or if you’re non-celiac gluten sensitive (NCGS) then yes it does matter. - Is NCGS a thing? - The prevalence of celiac disease = 0.5-1% of the population. Celiac is testable whereas NCGS isn’t, as there aren’t any functional changes in the GI tract. However, in celiac you can actually see the functional changes and the damaging effects to the autoimmune system. - In a randomised control trial, Biesiekierski et al (no idea how you pronounce that either), showed no effects of gluten in patients with self reported NCGS. They found it was actually the fermentable, poorly absorbed short-chain carbohydrates (FODMAPS) that caused IBS. - So when people who aren’t celiac claim cutting out gluten helped their IBS symptoms, it was most likely the reduction of FODMAPS in the same foods. - In non celiac individuals, there’s limited evidence to suggest any negative health implications... - Lis et al found a short term gluten free diet had no overall effect on performance, GI symptoms, intestinal injury or inflammatory markers in non-celiac endurance athletes. - It’s also interesting to note that Blue Zone diets contain plenty of gluten. - In short there’s no reason to avoid gluten unless you’re celiac. And if you’re having IBS issues mate look at a low FODMAP diet rather than gluten free. - That being said, if you currently avoid it, and it works for, and you don’t particularly like bread etc. then don’t eat it! I’m not saying you have to eat it... - But, if you are going to eat gluten again, after a period of going gluten-free, then make sure you reintroduce it slowly to avoid any digestive issues!

Self-care is defined as being intimate, loving and kind to oneself for the improvement or preservation of ones health. This practice enables one to have a healthier mental state and overall well-being. A simple self-care practice I’ve cultivated is asking myself, “Jannah, what is is that you need from me today?” . Oftentimes, in the midst of completing all of our duties one forgets that “I” am just as important as the rest of the world.
